April 5, 2019Texas Association Against Sexual Assault (TAASA) has many resources, and an advice line listed on their website. Here is the description of their service, “AVOICE is a program that provides free, confidential legal advice and representation for all victims and survivors of sexual assault in Texas. When you’re ready, call AVOICE at 888-343-4414.”
Texas Law Help has many resources. They provide court forms for simple civil cases and they also provide free legal information for those living in Texas. You can do a Live Chat Monday through Thursday 10 am to 2 pm.
You can use the American Bar Association to find your State Bar Association. This link takes you to the Find a Lawyer page on your State Bar Association website, and there is also lot of other resources to be found there as well. For instance under “For The Public” there are links to such things as: what to do if you have a problem with a lawyer, filing a grievance, a list of resources for if you can’t afford a lawyer, list of affordable legal services, free legal resources, and more. You can also find under the “Do You Need A Lawyer” link and others, a link to the Lawyer Referral and Information Service (LRIS). This service pairs you up with a lawyer who will give you a 30 minute consultation for $20.

VINE (Victim Information & Notification Everyday) – Provides information on criminal cases and the custody status of offenders
Legal Aid Locator – Legal Aid is meant for civil cases

This could be a great resource for learning what the laws are in your state to help protect your kids as best you can from an abusive parent.
